Reading Time: 3 minutes

Starting this year, I knew I wanted to choose a word of the year instead of making up some New Year resolution that I knew I would waste my time by doing. Honestly, I can’t remember the last time I made one. It’s been that long.

Last year, was the first time I did a word of the year. I decided on the world “shine”. I chose the word for a few reasons. One reason I chose my 2021 word of the year is that I knew that for a fact I wanted to not only see myself shine but also wanted to see my friends and family shine as well. Everyone was born to shine, and that’s something that I believe in. I wanted to shine within my life, my hobbies, my careers, and everything in-between.

2021 Word of the Year

If you’re wondering did that happen, then the answer was no. I never got a real chance to do things I wanted to do. I didn’t get the chance to shine through my YouTube videos because I could never find the time and chance to record new ones and I didn’t get to shine through new hobbies. However, that didn’t stop me from trying to get my friends to shine with what they wanted to do.

Another reason I chose the word shine is because of Ashanti’s song “Shine”. That song has resonated with me since I first listened to Ashanti’s 2008 album, The Declaration. The song was the first song that stuck out to me and has always made me feel I can shine just as much as anyone else.

What’s My 2022 Word of the Year?

“Creativity is inventing, experimenting, growing, taking risks, breaking rules, making mistakes, and having fun”.

– Mary Lou Cook

Enough about that and more about what my 2022 word of the year is. Or maybe I should say words. Back in February, I finally chose what I thought I wanted to be. However, recently that changed because I found a better word that I would like to set my intentions on. One word became three words quickly because using one word didn’t seem right when two others connected with it. My words of the year for 2022 are creative, create, and creativity.

The best way I think to explain why I chose the three words above as my words for this year is that I’m a creative type who loves using her creativity to create every day. Being creative is an amazing thing. I love it. I can’t tell you how many poems, songs, and other writings I’ve created as a whole. It’s been that many. Let’s not forget that I’ve also created my fair amount of YouTube videos and before restarting this blog from scratch, I had a few blog posts under my belt.

For the past two years, I’ve wanted to expand that. I’ve been wanting to do more creative things. Most of them, of course, require a lot of learning and practicing. Some of them simply require me to stop procrastinating and just start. All I want to do is to create beautiful and meaningful writings, videos, art, graphics, and the list goes on. Honestly, I’ve even thought about creating a podcast but I’ve second-guessed it the times that I thought about it. I need to learn to stop doing that and just create for the want and love of being true to myself.

Get Out and Get Creating!

While I feel like I’m a naturally born creator, I think and feel as if any and everyone can become a creator if they put their mind to it. I think creators today go beyond being those who create music, make graphics, make sculptors, and anything else that’s artistic. If you haven’t already, create something today or you can start tomorrow. Will your first creation be perfect? No. Does it have to be? No. Should you let that turn you away from trying to create? Never. All that matters is that you’re enjoying what you’re creating and that you’re having fun doing so. Before you leave this post, remember to create something new every day. It doesn’t have to be perfect. Happy creating and shining through your creations.
