It’s Time To Lock-In With The Great Lock-In

My drafts are overflowing, and ideas are flowing. It’s time for me to stop being the perfectionist that I am. In the same sense, it’s time to stop playing when it comes to my blog and myself and lock in.

We’re a few days into September, and I wanted to write a blog post about participating in The Great Lock-In. If you’ve been on social media, particularly TikTok and Threads, then you’ve likely seen The Great Lock-In trending. If you haven’t, I’ll be explaining what it is and how I’ll be participating below.

For those who aren’t sure what The Great Lock-In is, it’s a challenge that runs from September 1st to December 31st. During the challenge, people choose a specific goal or goals to focus on and tackle through the rest of the year. Some choose to lock in on one goal, while others choose several.

What’s In This For Me

The reason I’m choosing to do The Great Lock-In is because I want to challenge myself. My 34th year is all about being in my comeback era. I want to see my blog grow and flourish. I want to show up as much as I can for my blog I created five years ago.

I could’ve set myself out to have two goals to lock in to for the remainder of the year. However, I ultimately narrowed it down to just one. Both would’ve been in the same realm: writing. One was locking in on my blog, and the other was locking in on my music journalism. Ultimately I decided that I would lock in on my blog. I want to flourish when it comes to music writing. And because of that, I’m going to put time and energy into it as well. The thing is, I’ve been promising to get back to my blog in full swing for a while now.

Inside My Plan

Coming up with routines to follow isn’t usually my thing. I’ll come up with them but sometimes I get to the point where I want to throw them out and start over because I’m bored of the m. I don’t know. It’s just something about doing the same thing repeatedly that doesn’t sit right with me. However, after saying all of that, I did come up with some ideas and a plan for me to try to conquer The Great Lock-In.

Goals To Focus On

September

  • Get into the flow of everything

October

  • Update old blog posts
  • Participate in Blogtober
  • Publish a Tuesday Tens each week
  • Finish a post in one sitting

November

  • Get into the habit of responding to comments in a timely manner
  • Incoperate lyrics into at least one blog post (that isn’t a review)
  • Promote my posts on my socials and in FB groups

December

  • Have my drafts anywhere before December clered out
  • Do round up posts
  • Publish a post of what I learned from doing this

Milestones I Want To Accomplish

  • Have at least one post a week
  • Do at least 2 different series a month
  • Complete Blogtober (at least 20 blog posts)
  • Have (#) of blog posts posted by the end of the year (number coming soon)

Routines To Follow (Maybe, because ew!)

While I’m not big on routines because ew, there are a few things that I do want to do at least once or twice a week outside of writing, scheduling, and posting blog posts.

  • Keep track of my blog posts, ideas, etc in my blog content calendar I purchased from This Splendid Shambles. Also, keep it up-to-date.
  • Create at graphics for a least one blog post coming out in the future each week.
  • Promote my blog and blog posts at least once a week.

Things I Hope To Eliminate

  • Being a perfectionist. While I procrastinate often, I have the biggest problem with being a perfectionist. I read what I write and want to delete things, add things, and rewrite things like there’s no tomorrow.
  • Not promoting my blog posts. I’m on Threads, Pinterest, Instagram, and part of two amazing Facebook groups for bloggers. There’s no reason I shouldn’t be promoting myself more by the time this is over. Also, I know some Discord servers I’m part have self-promo channels for more than just Twitch channels.
  • Stop overthinking things.

That’s it. That’s the post. I didn’t add too much to things because chances are I’ll add on more when I think of more. At the same time, I like said in my goals blog post earlier this year I don’t want to add too much when I can always come back to add more at another time. Are you doing participating The Great-Lock In? If so, what will you be focusing on for the rest of the year? I would love to know.

  1. I love the idea of setting a goal and focusing on it for the rest of the year. This seems small compared to your writing, but I’ve been doing a lot of baking this year. I’d like to keep that up and then make my favorite recipes to give out to friends and family. Thanks for the inspiration, Relle, and I’ll be here for your Blogtober celebration!

    1. Yes and thank you! 💖 I agree it’s a good idea for setting a goal. When I saw the mention of it, I told myself I NEED to participate in it. Nothing is too small though! I think keeping up with baking is such a big idea, good one as well. Good luck with keeping it up. You got this!!! 🥰
